I had an enjoyable time operating Rover from 5 counties, all in state parks. These parks are accommodating locations with the amenities one needs. I used picnic tables and pavilions where available, and set up a 40 Meter long wire between the trees.
I tried to select counties that would be needed, within my drivable range. Within these criteria, my best site was Yellow Creek State Park in Indiana County Sunday morning. After reading this reflector Saturday evening, it appeared that INN was needed by many.
I also worked PAQP from Franklin, Fulton, Bedford, & Blair. I put >700 miles in.
W3WPA is a club callsign of Allegheny Valley Radio Association (AVRA). AVRA promotes contest activity in Western Pennsylvania, and membership is free and open to licensed amateurs with an interest in contesting. Members compete in major contests and submit their scores to ARRL and CQ under the AVRA banner, and we are climbing the affiliated club competition charts!
Please visit the AVRA website at www.alleghenyvalley.net and click through to our Yahoo group to join. Even if you are already a member of a local club, contesting with AVRA can be an enjoyable addition to your hobby.
