Remember that VE1's from NB got to keep their calls when NB was switched to VE9. You can't assume a VE1 is Nova Scotia, best to ask if they tell you Maritime.

The Special event station for the 2010 version of the PAQSO party is The
Skyview Radio Society - K3MJW. There were some good candidates this year,
but Skyview is celebrating their 50th anniversary, plus they are getting
their station on the air after repairs from storm damage.

More details forthcoming.

Much of the rules and summary have references to the Special event station,
so the rules and the forms are not up to date. This will happen soon.

Remember that ALL CW QSOs are now 2 points. If your software hasn't been
updated, you'll need to correct that on the summary sheet.

Canadian sections have also been changed.

The log writers have been informed and should all be changed by now.

I'm going to be gentle in interpreting the VE sections - as I always have
been. The problem isn't with us, it is that there is no standard. Even the
ARRL has contests with different sections. But we're probably in the
majority now. In the end, It's an addition of Nunavut and that some others
were merged.

Remember that the mugs are history.

We've now reached the point where I don't see many if any rules changes
coming along. At this moment we are pretty well placed for at least several
years.

When an eastern Canadian sends his ARRL/RAC Section - Maritime - are we to
log the section he sends, or log the province (NS, NB or PE) where we
think he is according to his call sign?

Jim,

I question the other station with the proper exchange: NS? When they confirm, I log it.

The folks that use a recent version of N1MM Logger will not be able to log an invalid or out of date section unless they force the logging of the contact (Ctrl+ALT+Enter).

When a VE callsign is entered and the cursor is moved into the exchange fields, the VE section will be populated based on the callsign or call history. The user will know what to expect. If something else is sent, the exchanged can be used to question the other station for the proper exchange.

Below is the VE multiplier table from N1MM Logger. If you log an exchange that is mapped for instance, LB, it is converted to NL so only the proper multipliers will appear in the Cabrillo file that is submitted.

Welcome to the fun world of working Canadian sections!

Mostly you log what your software will accept. Then I interpret it. My guess
is that is going to continue for a long time, because there is just no
standard for VE sections.

I got a lot of complaints about the way PAQSO handles the VE's, so when I
investigated, what I found was a mess. RAC wasn't any help. Even ARRL has
two different versions that they use. The contest manager at ARRL laughed
when I asked him about it - he knows the issue well. CAQSO uses the same
sections we used to use. Other parties and contests use different. So I
settled on the sections we use now as one used by a semi majority.

In the end, I'll do what I've always done, which is to look at the section
in the log, and interpret, because we get all manner of different names in
the logs. The software writers have the same problem I do, which is "what
are the right sections?"
