Make sure you have latest drivers for windows Vista / 7

I had the same problem with the USB to serial i used for a long time when i switched to vista looked up new drivers and it works again!  Ahh the magic of computers when all the 1's and 0's line up!

I was just dealing with this same issue two days ago.  I was having issues
with a generic Prolific chip based adapter.  I found that the Gigaware 6
foot USB to serial adapter at Radio Shack works well.  I'm running two of
them simultaneously with no problems with Windows 7.

So for once I can say "Radio Shack to the rescue"..... :-)
