The problem with software is that it frequently does not do exactly what you want, as I have also seen with the logging products. If you look into running Linux, software is typically free and open source. Free doesn't necessary mean free cost(but it usually is zero cost), it is free to modify and redistribute. You can get a copy of the source code, modify it, use it, and can release it with your changes. This is handy and can add features. With most commercial software for Windows, they sell you something for a fortune, don't tell you how it works, you cannot modify it in any way, and forget about redistribution. There is a EULA 10 feet long lawyers do not understand. Not the best way to do things.
I sincerely hope that in the future ham software is released for other operating systems(so you don't need to perform tricks to use it), as well as released as being free and open-source. The Free Software Foundation explains this better than I can.
