Going to INN was a last minute decision. I was going to do an MS with N3FR in WAR but when the grandson found out we were not going camping this year he was upset (to say the least). So I scrabmled and came up with Yellow Creek State Park in INN. The accomodations were nice, clean, etc., but much less conducive to antenna installation. Plus, the "cottage" vs. a "modern cabin" was a real step down (no stove, refridge or running water.....i.e., no bathroom/shower in the cottage........I didn't work anyone in CMB this year but I think they could probably smell me over there).
I have all kinds of excuses why my score is lower than any since 1993, but I won't bore you.
But here is a statistic I find very interesting. It concerns 160 meter operation. My QTH this year did not allow for a 160 dipole installation. I usually make 50 to 75 QSO's on 160 cw and I new I would miss those points. My 160 CW numbers from 2000 to 2006 were: 26, 35, 75, 56, 75, 72 and 86, respectively. So I figured I'd just have to make up for those 2 point QSO's on 80 meter CW, which, of course, are 2 point QSO's also. To my surprise, my 80 CW Q's this year totaled more points than my 80 + 160 Q's in every year back to 1992. My point (and what I learned): Why go through the aggravation of installing that 160 dipole in a portable setup if "beating 80 meters to death" generates the same (or more) QSO points. In the future, when I go portable, you won't find me on 160.
For anyone interested in the actual data for the past 13 years.
(the first number is the 160 Q's, the second number is the 80 Q's and the third number is the total)
2007: 00 + 248 = 248
2006: 86 + 147 = 233
2005: 72 + 158 = 230
2004: 75 + 166 = 241
2003: 56 + 162 = 218
2002: 75 + 153 = 228
2001: 35 + 137 = 172
2000: 26 + 150 = 176
1999: 54 + 145 = 199
1998: 48 + 169 = 217
1997: 46 + 153 = 199
1996: 84 + 152 = 236
1995: 35 + 154 = 189
Probably back to CMB next year.
