Several years ago I took 6 meter gear and a 4 element yagi on
one of my portable/counties sortees, and was disappointed.
I don't recall having worked anyone at all, and realized that the
time spent trying to scare up a Q or 2 would have been very
unproductive in that the Q-rate would have suffered.

As you mentioned, 6 was open to Europe today but all
signals were very weak. My 6 elements at 30' and only running
80 watts just didn't cut the mustard. This evening there was
some activity from the South from FN-20. I worked a couple
on SSB, but couldn't raise any CW stuff.
The month of July was fabulous for European stuff. I think I
worked about 14 countries.  Lots of Italy stations.

All I can say is try it. You might get lucky.
