I was fortunate enough to be able to get to my portable site (Cabin #1 in
Prince Gallitzin State Park) on Tuesday afternoon. That allowed me to put
up my antennas in dry weather. Got the 20, 40cw and 80 meter dipoles in
the air Wednesday and the 40 phone and 160 dipoles on Thursday.

Tuning around a bit on Friday showed that 40 was in bad shape for the QSO
party. Hoping for a change by Saturday proved futile.

Having my grandson at the camp ate into the operating time a bit, but was
worth every minute of the sacrifice. When he reeled in that bluegill,
seeing his face light up made it all worth while.

Results:

Band CW Phone QSO Points
160 72 11 155
80 158 85 401
40 140 244 454
20 91 73 209.5
15 3 0 4.5

Total 464 413 1224

1224 x 133 mults = 162,792.

Including 4 bonus station QSO's, final claimed score of 163,592.

Missed ARM, BED, CLE and CRA for county sweep.

Missed SB, ID, MT and ND for lower 48 sweep.

Missed NS, NWT, NB, YT, PEI, NF and LB for Canada sweep.

Also missed PAC, AK, PR and VI.

Rig is FT1000 Mk V.

Ran 150 watts or less.

Working KC3M's 8 year old grandson David was a real treat. He did a FB job
on our QSO.

It's always nice to hear all the old familiar call signs........JED, HDH,
PA3ARM, N6MU, USA.....to mention just a very few.

This was the first time the radio was turned on since SS CW in 2004. And
that was a very abbreviated appearance......without getting into details,
the passing of my father in February has resulted in some significant
changes in time commitments.

No real Murphy visits this year........maybe that I had to lower the
center of the 160 dipole and replace the center insulator qualifies, but
only slightly. And that was done in the dry condx of Thursday afternoon.

Never took the second radio out of the car.

Thanks to everyone for all the QSO's. Everyone "out and about" this year
deserve a big pat on the back given the condx. And that's not to slight
any home stations.......there are more of you than any other class of op,
so obviously you guys are the "bread and butter" of the event.........and
I may well be one of you next year. Yes, that means I'm thinking of
hanging up my "pocket rocket" portable antenna installation tool. If I do,
it will get a prominent spot on the shack wall. I have been portable every
year since 1991 with the exception of 92, (stayed home due to
wedding.....not mine.....that was in 1971), usually in CMB with the
exception of ELK in 91, FAY/SOM/WES CL in 94 and ELK again in 97.

Finally a big thanks to all the out of state stations. Just a guess on my
part, but I think the percentage of out of staters vs. in-staters was
higher this year.......aha......an idea for a little statistical research.
