"They are quite fun and a

Amen to that! Where else can you be rare DX for the cost of gas, food, and a campsite?

Ps: If anyone is planning to do a web page, or list this year, showing everyones plans, let me know. I'd like to link to you.

The recent calculations about the rarity of counties
was nice to read. It also addressed what I was
thinking while reading, mainly that a county can swing
wildly in rarity from year to year. Good job!
This list illustrates why it is important to post your
intentions in advance. I read a story last year about
how two people happened to both go to Cameron in the
same campsite and be DIRECTLY next to each other. One
wanted to do 20 PH and the other 20 CW. That was
rather lively. Planning can avoid such gaffes.
You can never assume that because certain stations
were on one year, that they will automatically be on
the next. I think that is why the counties flip flop
from year to year. Good to verify. I like the list
which shows the activity before each contest on the
reflector.
Hats off to the people who go the extra mile to
operate portable or mobile. It is truly a great
service. One of the things which is quite frustrating
is that many people want to work all the counties, but
refuse to leave their home. Instead, they depend upon
others to activate the rare counties. I call this the
you ought to syndrome. Needless to say, if everyone
did this, we would only have 10 counties easily
worked, perhaps. If you have never done a portable
effort, please consider. They are quite fun and a
cheap way to be DX for a weekend.
