I believe that whether you sign /M or /P is an operational preference, and
not something driven by the software (any software).
I'm picturing K8MR/3 choosing several counties from which they will operate
Rover, and while commuting between those counties, they will operate Mobile.
Sounds like a good plan. My only concern will be whether I already worked
them in that particular county, and I won't know that until I either hear
them give out a contact or until I ask them directly. And if they enter a
county in which they are going to operate Rover, and they continue to hand
out Mobile contacts, so be it. All they're doing, in essence, is taking
away from their Rover contact totals.
I enter mobiles and rovers as the call slash county (AA3A/LAW) and then when
they change counties, I change the entry to reflect the new county
(AA3A/ERI). That's what distinguishes whether they are a dupe to me.
And quite frankly, I don't see what this has to do with rules.....as I said
earlier, it's more to do with operating preferences whether you sign /M, /R
or /3.
Good thread though. Makes us think.

Jim, I am not sure how you can operate the Party as a
/3 instead of saying if you are mobile or rover. My
understanding of the software is that if you operate
from different counties, you must send mobile(/m) or
rover(/r.) If you don't do this the logging program
will kick you out as a dupe. This will be difficult
for all involved. It would be easiest to pick one
type of entry or the other.
If you don't want to pick one or the other, why not
run your call for the mobile qso's and the driver's
call for the stopped rover qso's? That makes
everyone's life that much easier. It seems to fix the
problem, right?
