[PaQSO] 2m FM ACTIVITY HOUR

It's good to see some activity here again. The summer must be running away
from us again! Tis almost the season! :-)

Of my 1312 QSOs last year, TWO were on 2m FM. I'm sure there was more
activity there, and I have a decent VHF QTH, but I was so busy on HF that I
had little time to even look on 2m/6m (also 2 QSOs).

Higher VHF points would encourage more activity there, although I suspect it
wouldn't do a lot. I'd love to be proven wrong on that. With all of the
HF/6m rigs now in use, I'm amazed there is so little 6m activity. When we
did the W3HA operation here in 1999, we had only 2 dozen or so QSOs on 6m.
2m FM was good during that operation, yielding well over 100 QSOs, but we
had that station manned almost full time. That makes the difference in a
multi-op. A single-op can't do that (unless you're the K3WW type that has
the multi-radio/one-brain thing mastered).

Like K3YD said, location, location, location!

I'm curious.....

I have a 2 meter rig that probablyl has a half inch of dust on it.

If I had it with me (QTH far north central CMB) and put 5 watts into a 5/8
wave dipole sitting on the refridg in the cabin, could I expect to get 5 or
10 Q's? None??? 20 ro 30???

Just curious.

Time to think about 2003 again. I would like to
formally suggest a 2m FM activity hour. I propose
making it on Sunday October 12, 2003 at 4 PM. We can
informally decide to do it here, but I would prefer to
have it officially placed into the QSO mailings and
promoted statewide. It appears the contact at NARC
is:
 [email protected]

He needs to hear from us to get this official. I
tried writing, but failed to obtain a response. Most
people tend to not answer emails anymore, so you never
know if they read them, but it's worth a shot.

The logic behind this time is twofold. First of all
the Murgas Club always uses Sunday at 4 PM, so they
are already making noise on 2 FM. Also, with 2 hours
left in the contest, there is plenty of time to devote
to 2 FM, so no one feels rushed. I personally worked
2 Fm for the last 2 hours of the test last year with
decent results. I worked a fair stream of people. If
we promote it, it should be much better.
