Hi Tim, and everyone else,
I usually jump up to 160 before the others, say, around
10:30PM, and stay there until my rate starts to get
really bad. Typically I make around 100, to maybe 110
Qs, with a slight majority on CW. With 2 points for the
CW I kinda lean that way.
My antenna for 160 is, believe it or not, an unloaded
half wave dipole, with the center feed point at 30 feet
and the ends at 20 feet. A real cloud warmer. Last year,
in a camp ground in JEF I had to bend one end, about 35 feet
of it, at a right angle, with the end insulator only about
6 feet off the ground.
160 is my favorite HF band, so I couldn't do this, (or wouldn't),
without having that capability.
As a result of several comments here on the reflector I am
going to try including 6 Meters. I have a 4 element beam that
I will mount about 2 feet above the tri-bander, Wish me luck.
