[PaQSO] family issues

Well stated. No matter how "solid" I may think my plans are, they are
almost all up for grabs if someone important enough (spelled "spouse") feels
I should be doing something else. The only real "sacred" date is PaQP and
that maintains it's importance due to the fact my wife and my mother and I
make it a really enjoyable weekend get away (my wife and my mother go craft
show hopping and fall color picture taking). It is an absolutely fantastic
time of the year to go portable, mobile, or rover.
All that said, I agree that having the family calendar is a good thing to do
so you are at least given some degree of consideration for your desired
operating times.
If you're going portable or rover, and you haven't done it already, now's a
good time to review your antenna and coax situation. In fact, Ed (WA3SES)
and I are both in need of coax due to using up our supply for our respective
home antennas, so we're going in together on a coax purchase to take
advantage of bulk discounts.
I hate to wish away the summer but I am really anxious for this PaQP. I'm
going to a new site in Warren County this year with much larger open area
(and much larger cabin) for wire antennas AND UNDERGROUND UTILITIES! That's
a very big plus! Hoping to install a 160 dipole this year.
Best regards.
Bob, N3FR (portable in Warren)

As long as any of us have a family, an employer or clients, a concern about
personal health, an obligation to the Federal Government (read TAXES) and
membership in at least one additional organization or activity . . .there
WILL be unavoidable conflicts!
In January 2002, I "reserved" weekends for ARRL DX (both), FD, PAQP, and
CQWW
(both) on the family calendar. How am I doing? I managed 'bout half of
both
ARRL DX tests, missed FD completely, and am pretty sure that I'll miss most
of PAQP Sunday. It's too early to guess about CQWW.
It's amateur radio . . .we do it for FUN.
