[PaQSO] QRP & Pleasantries

I agree Mike, if someone wants to have a nice friendly chat between
contacts, by all means do so.
Regulate friendliness? I would never suggest anyone change their operating
style for the PaQP, however, when I'm working a mini pile-up, I will shorten
my exchanges, as was suggested in an earlier post, if for no other reason
than to hopefully maintain interest of those waiting for a contact. In fact
now that I think about it, I believe that working them quickly is actually
being courteous, as you're not making people wait.
In fact there is a phenomenon that happens to me frequently during this
contest, and that is, when I give a 'QRZ' and 3 or 4 stations answer, I pick
one and work them. Then, when I 'QRZ' again, expecting the 3 or 4 stations
that came back to me on the previous 'QRZ' to respond, they're gone. My
opinion on this is that if I were a 'rare county' and they needed my mult,
those folks would wait. However, if that mult is in the log, they'll move
on and possibly catch me later.
Interesting topic. Glad we're discussing it. I like this kind of 'stuff'.

Subject: [PaQSO] QRP & Pleasantries
I must say Uncle and lesson learned. I only started to operate QRP to
reduce the neighbors complaints during the one or two contest I may do a
year. As such, I have never read any hints on the subject of qrp contesting
and thought the /QRP was not a true requirement but more a formal obligation
when using qrp in a contest. I agree to save time, get quicker exchanges,
and eliminate fatigue it is best to leave it off the exchange and call.
As for the other subject some are speaking of eliminating the pleasantries
others like to use that is another subject. I do not find it objectionable
and sometimes do it myself. I like to do an occasional contest but have
never gone out for blood. One of the most enjoyable things about the PA
Party is hearing calls of friends and of those you may have worked in many
contest past. If pleasantries are exchanged that is between operators and
they should not be criticized for it. If you can't wait for that point, you
have a VFO, the option is yours. I have always thought of this as PARTY
(although I do like to score well in it). Go for blood and I wish you luck,
I may do the same someday, but don't try to regulate the friendliness out of
PA QSO PARTY, it is what distinguishes it from others.
