[PaQSO] Mobile Scoring

With all due respect John, no, computer logs do not have to be more work for
anyone.
As I have mentioned before, I've had discussions in the past with the
developers of the Cabrillo format, and I have it on their good authority
that the software exists -- right now -- to almost totally automate
receiving, tabulating, and cross checking logs for the major ARRL & CQ
contests -- that is one of the reasons they are proposing shortening the
time to submit your log in those contests from a month to 2 weeks (which is
another story for another time).
Less you think I am mistaken, here is the exact quote, although I am
deleting the call signs involved since it was a private email:
# As I said in my message to cq-contest:
## last year Tree N6TR advanced the log processing tools for
## Sweepstakes to the point that we are now capable of producing the
## complete set of line scores and top ten boxes and so forth within 30
## minutes of the log deadline.
#
# I lied. It was really two years ago.
Now if they can handle the complexities of scoring the major contests with
thousands upon thousands of submitted logs, I have no doubt that the system
could easily be adapted to handle the relatively small number of logs that a
state QSO party -- even one as big as ours -- generates.
However, having said all that, and again with no disrespect intended:
If the mindset and perception exists that electronic logs creates more work
when it doesn't (or shouldn't), then nothing will ever change. That is a
big mistake and it will eventually come back to haunt us if the option of
electronic log submissions is ignored or continued to be shot down.

Yes they do, and computer logs are more work for them, less for you and they
win.
