What I like best about the PaQP, other than working friends again year after
year, is being able to generate a pile-up. In most contests, a Pennsylvania
station (or a station in FN20 in VHF contests) does not cause a feeding
frenzy.
What would I change? I would make all CW contacts worth 2 points. I think it
might encourage more people to try some CW ... which would be good learning
experience for them and good for the scores of those of us who regularly
look for Q's on that mode. Most ops in the PaQP will be polite and QRS ...
at least, they did for me when I first tried CW in the PaQP. You know who
you are, and THANK YOU!
I like the idea of encouraging more VHF in the contest. There's no way to
know if the bands will be open, but I usually listen / call on 6 SSB/CW now
and then. If we had a published time to listen / call on VHF, who knows, we
might at least be able to ground-wave at each other and pick up some Q's.
