I'm going to assume you are speaking of the optional Knet firmware. Knet is
compatible with the X1J firmware, I'm again you are speaking of the X1J
because you mention "chat" and I think you want to mean talk. When it comes
to networking Knet is compatible with an existing network using X1J however
the Knet net firmware doesn't have all the features of X1J like the "talk"
command, that lets all stations connected to the node to have a round table
conversation with each other.
At the time I purchased My kpc3 and added the Knet firmware the combination
was less expensive than buying a new MFJ TNC2 clone and I bought the
Kantronics unit only as a back up for my node however, that price advantage
no longer exists today. The advantage of Knet over Knode is the Knet is
compatible with any existing thenet packet networks.--73

Subject: [Packet] CHAT Mode
: We are currently running a KA-NODE with a KPC-3 Plus with version 8.2. My
: question is if we upgrade with the K-Node Chip does it give you CHAT
: capabilities. What are the overall advantages up making that upgrade? Any
: comments appreciated
