Doug,

>(5334)." AGWPE lists them the same way without "mixer".

Doug, I'm no expert on how Windows deals with devices; in fact, I'm still
confused all the time. But I just get the sense that Windows is equally
confused about audio devices in your system.

(I'm running with 2 sound cards here... both operational and recognized by
Windows and AGWPE. Windows, all applications other than AGWPE, and the
Sound Recorder automatically use the first device listed; I don't seem to
have much control over this. I can, however, set AGWPE to use either
device, so I set it to use the second card.)

I wonder if there's some mix-up with the original card that's at the heart
of the problem. You say it's disabled by Windows. How do you get Windows to
do that? Any chance it's not really disabled? or it's associaed mixer
program isn't disabled. And you say Windows and AGWPE list 3 different
audio devices, but yet you have only two sound cards?

Something you might try ... when AGWPE was confused about sound card device
numbering (pre-2001.10), you could play with the SOUNDCARD= line in the
AGWPE.INI file. If it was set for SOUNDCARD=0, AGWPE picked the first
device. By changing the numbering, you could force AGWPE to use another
audio device. (You'll get error messages when AGWPE boots and you've told
it to use a non-functioning device or have chosen a number too high.)

Have you tried taking out the Creative Vibra 128 and running with the old
card alone at least temporarily to see what happens?

Or un-installing all 3 audio mixer devices and let Windows re-install them
(plug&play) when it reboots? (Hopefully this will sort out which mixer
isn't necessary and maybe interfering with everything.)

Grasping at straws here ...
