Greetings All,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the successes of some of our
members in linking with the new Oregon Gateway. We have been using the free
times on the nets to have members link up with the Gateway which tells the
members their systems are functioning, and gives us a better idea of the
geographical coverage we have without propagation effects. We are also
getting more members checking in to the nets and that adds a great deal to
the things we can accomplish. It is all coming together.

It seems I have yet to be replaced as the sysop on the Gateway so I am
continuing plans for a more improved access system until such time as the
SMD replaces me. We are going to mount vertical antennas (80m, 20m, and 15m
bands) and give them a test just as we have the G5RV. Verticals may give us
more accessibility to more stations - the test period will give us that
information. It will allow us, if successful, to cover more freqs. for
testing if permissible, but will also give us 360 degree radiation and
reception patterns. I used it on 40 meters and held a 20 minute QSO with a
station in southern Arizona on 3 watts with a HotWater 8. Good antenna!
Also, my G5RV won't tune to AT0TWA frequency of KDI with digital offset.
Not even close. Maybe the verticals will change that problem.

Be on the lookout for a cheap, cheap radio as we would like to run one on
Amtor and one on the present rig for Pactor. You got it - the software test
on F6FBB showed that software will NOT release the com port from Pactor to
Amtor. I have the TNC (another PK 232) and cables. Well, coax, I'll make the
cable for the TNC.

Any programmers out there who would like to work on a new project, please
call me. AAM0T0R and I have been kicking around some ideas about a software
that would improve Army MARS requirements and I have the codes for a program
that we could work on and have the permission of the author to do so. Would
save a lot of time and work if we have the basic program to begin. Some
times pie-in-the-sky can become dessert on the table!

Thanks everyone for your cooperation with this project.

The Oregon Gateway schedule remains the same (for now) as:
7 days - Noon to 3:30 PM PDT on KFC LSB with offset
7 days - 8PM to 11:30PM PDT on KDF LSB with offset
The callsign is AT0TOR - that's Alpha Tango Zero Tango Oscar Romeo - I don't
trust this font style!
