Mac- its' a good question
OQRS is a generic term for an online QSL request portal. The portals
are generally, but not always tied to an online database that
facilitates matching QSOs between the stations.
OQRS consists of two parts:
- The database engine ( as mentioned above)
- and some type of webform that facilitates payment (if desired) and
ordering (with address) for the requestor.
By far Clublog is the most popular logging system with an integrated
OQRS engine (see the OQRS tab on Clublog), probably close to 70% (MY
ESTIMATE) of OQRS based qsl requests are via Clublog.
But OQRS is not proprietary to ClubLog, many QSL managers and high
volume DXpeditions create their own web portal with an integrated OQRS
function; some have a back-interface into ClubLog's database, while
others are driven by the manager's own database.
The QSL instructions for a station (provided on QRZ, or on DX
bulletins) will usually state the OQRS method, if available. Most
will say "ClubLog OQRS", while others will provide a link to their own
OQRS portal. Once
you arrive at the OQRS portal you simply key in your callsign and the
database will show a match if successful. Once matched you make
payment (usually via PayPal), provide a direct address, and then sit
back and wait. No cards to
fill out or SSE with Green Stamps to mail.
If you have a ClubLog Account you can even set up your own OQRS
Service, then you can list "OQRS" as a QSL method on your QRZ page.
Hope that Helps
