Jeff,

I never coppied them on 20m. I did see one or two spots but wrote them off
as pirates. 20m has always been known as Kilowatt Alley. I think they
were trying to work the little guys that didn't have 3Y0 on several bands
already. I think that plan worked good for Europe but not for the US.
I've heard a lot of complaining about US stations not being heard by them.

To say the DXpedition was a disappointment is an understatement. I was
looking forward to filling some band slots but settled for one Q to let
others have a shot. It seems obvious that it is too dangerous to go there
without a chopper. Even if they went ashore at a different place on the
island they would still be transmitting into the caldera in some
direction.

These guys risked life and limb to get what little equipment they did
manage to get ashore and I commend them for that. I would have been in
serious trouble after a few hours of operating on the floor of the tent.
(After having been dunked in the icy water) I don't know how they kept up
the pace.

Anyway, it is in the books and I hope they kept good notes for the next
group that tackles it. You mentioned Dom and I gained a little more
respect for him after this. He was smart enough to turn around and leave
when he saw how bad the environment was. However, I still don't support
his pay to play campaign.

Hope more Q's show up and one of them is yours.
