[OKDXA] 3Y0J

This 3Y0J DXpedition is a new experience for me. The only thing I hear on FT8 F/H is many calling and no one working the DX. In my case I have never heard him and I have never heard anyone in a pileup I’m listening to working him. I could be that the cliff to the north west of them is blocking his signal. However, I turn to long path and in my experience I still do not hear him. I don’t have a beam for 30 meters so I can’t compare long versus short paths on that band.

I thought working Bouvet would be difficult – kind of like Crozet and Peter I or Scarborough. These places had huge pileups but at least I could hear the DX and hear callers not only calling the DX but actually working the DX. The sunspot cycle is better now that it has been for a while. I believe that [a] low power, [b] small antenna, [c] big cliff to the NW, must be working together to set this DXped apart from other rare ones.

Since I’ve never heard him I’m subject to being deceived by pirates and bogus spots on the cluster. I signed up to have a “real time” LOTW post from the Bouvet confirming a QSO. I still plan on taking delivery of that “real time” QSL. Like the XYL says “patience is a virtue”.

Yes, me too, whether or not I work them. Or hear them.

I always assumed that "the deserving" was sort of an in-joke, not to
be taken seriously, like "said with a wink" ... It appears that there
are many who aren't in on the joke and really feel that they do
"deserve" a confirmed contact. Not a good look for the hobby.
