Thanks John!
Baud rate and handshake are set accordingly, but I think I'll start from
scratch with things and maybe something will click. Been a long time since
I configured the programs and it could be something outside of the WSJT-X
rig control parameters.
As for the 590 itself, I don't have a wide range of experience with many
radios, but my first was a TS-850. Loved that radio and it worked well for
over 20 years. When the display went away in 2018 (corrosion from leaky
caps) I stayed with what was familiar. It took me a few sessions to warm up
to the 590SG, but I like it just as much as the 850. A dynamite radio for
the price.
Thanks again!

Hi Mark,
I have used the Kenwood TS590 successfully with WSJT-X using just a USB
cable between the radio and laptop. Makes for a very nice easy setup.
Here are a couple of things I can think of, you might have already checked
them out:
1. Is the CAT rate (Baud rate) set for the same on WSJT and on the radio? I
think on the radio once you set the CAT rate you have to turn the radio off
and on again to get it to change to the new rate.
2. I think the Handshake needs to be set for Hardware for the TS590. Don't
know if you have tried that or not.
Here is a video that might help:

Good luck with it. The TS590SG is a fantastic radio! It makes me wonder
what the TS890 must be like to be ever higher level.

Subject: [OKDXA] WSJT-X and Kenwood TS-590SG
Fellow OKDX'ers,
I'm tired of missing out on the opportunities FT8 provides and wanted to
give it a try again. I played around with WSJT-X, WSJT-X Alert, and N3FJP
for logging back in 2018/19. The entire setup functioned well and I made
several hundred contacts, but honestly I got bored with the mode and haven't
used it since.
During the past several months I've been too busy to get on the radio much
except for dabbling in a few contests. The frequent spots on the reflector
have me thinking that I could dart into the shack more often for a quick QSO
or two if I would just get things fired up ahead of time. I've updated to
the latest version, but I'm having com problems between WSJT-X and my
Kenwood TS-590SG. I know this issue is vague, but I'm a bit stumped and
wondering if it might be a problem specific to the TS-590 or Kenwood radios,
so I figured I'd throw it out to the group.
I'm receiving audio and decoding fine but cannot figure out what happened to
the rig control. I'm certainly connected via the rig's USB com port as I am
able to use this same port for rig control in N1MM, HDSDR, ACLog, Kenwood's
CAT control interface and other digital apps/modes. None of those
applications have a problem and are all configured the same port (Com 5, N,
8, 1, etc.). It doesn't appear to be a conflict with other apps as I've
attempted to run WSJT-X from a fresh restart with no other applications
running.
I know this is a long shot as com problems are challenging even in person,
but I thought I'd ask the group to see if there might be a known issue with
the latest WSJT-X release and/or the 590 specifically. Perhaps someone using
a 590SG could send me their WSJT-X rig control parameters so I can compare?
Kind of a drag, and I hate being defeated by my radio gear.
If you are a Kenwood op, or have helpful suggestions, feel free to reply
direct so we don't bore the group.

Mark - K5YAC
