I knew that something was afoot recently, when I talked to my old roommate
Dave Patton, NN1N.
Dave and I went to college together back in Illinois, and he had since went
on to dedicate many years of his life to various roles at the ARRL, most
recently as Membership services Director. He was heavily involved in LoTW,
but lately he he's decided to walk away from this role, and return to
Illinois, taking a position back in Macomb, IL with the local railroad.

(OK, here's me, wondering what his NEXT callsign is gonna be??)

Anyway, the old ARRL isn't what it used to be. I absolutely agree that in
today's world, transparency is critical, but along with that comes the
expectation you won't be 100% perfect, so constituents should be realistic
in their expectations.

Dave has not explicitly said "These are the things wrong with the ARRL..."
but I simply got the impression that working conditions were just not as
good today as they used to be, and have slowly deteriorated over time. I
sensed his frustration. Take that for what it's worth. Dave is a great
contester, DXer and longtime CW op who grew up at K4VX.

Many thanks to Ted for keeping up with WTF is going on.

....On what's going on at arrl, and the 5 board members who voted on the
censure of N6AA who are up for election in 2018.

http://n0ssc.com/posts/613-arrl-boards-weird-censure-of-n6aa

These five directors all voted for the censure of N6AA, created the "code
of silence" at ARRL, and also happen be up for re-election in 2018:

   - Kermit Carlson W9XA (Central Division, member of the now-infamous
Ethics & Elections Committee and maker of the censure motion)
   - Mike Lisenco N2YBB (Hudson Division, member of the Executive Committee
and the one who seconded the censure motion, and who now has provided the
bylaws amendment to be voted on in January 2018)
   - Tom Frenaye K1KI (New England Division and member of the Ethics and
   Elections Committee)
   - Jim Pace K7CEX (Northwestern Division and member of the Ethics &
   Elections Committee)
   - Jim Boehner N2ZZ (Roanoke Division).

All of the foregoing voted in favor of adopting the Code, and all of them
voted to censure Dick. Ultimately, the decision as to whether to retain or
replace these five will be voted upon in the respective divisions.
