I will be giving the linear to Ryan, WO0KEE. Ryan passed his ham radio
license about a year ago. He is Gene's [W5LE] son.
To keep DXing alive we all need to be helping and mentoring new DXers.

BTW, What do all of you think of the New Rules [or new non rules?] that
the ARRL Board decided on for DXCC remote operations?
They decided to "open the floodgates" by not placing any distance
restriction on remote operation -- not even requiring the remote control
point and the physical transmitter / receive location to be in the same
entity or the same continent or the same planet. According to Sumner:
"Now the location of the operator doesn't matter, the operator could be
on the far side of the Moon if he or she could figure out how to
remotely control a station on land back on Earth from there".
However, they added a new Section 11 that says [my paraphrase] "remote
operation can open a Pandora's Box relative to what's ethical. We will
leave it to peer pressure amongst various amateurs to work out what is
'ethical' relative to remote --- but we at the ARRL are not going to do
anything to define any parameters relative to what is or is not
"ethical". Here is a snip of Subsection 11 taken directly from the ARRL
BoD press release:
================== DIRECT SNIP FROM ARRL PRESS RELEASE ============
The Board further adopted a new rule, now Subsection 11 (subsequent
rules will be renumbered accordingly), that acknowledges the reality of
the technology enabling remote operation, and it puts greater
responsibility on individuals when it comes to applying that technology
ethically and responsibly.
“Issues concerning remotely controlled operating and DXCC are best dealt
with by each individual carefully considering the ethical limits that
he/she will accept for his/her DXCC and other operating awards,” the new
rule states. It adds, in part, “the owner of these achievements needs to
be comfortable standing behind his/her award and numbers. Peer attention
has always been a part of awards chasing, of course, but in these times
with so many awards and so many players, it is more important than even
to ‘play the game ethically.’”
Subsection 11 acknowledges that technological advances “add to the
difficulty in defining rules for DXCC,” but stresses that the intent of
the rules is what’s important. “It will continue to be up to the
operator to decide what types of legal remote control operating he/she
will use (if any) to contribute to an operating award,” the new rule
concludes.
=============== END OF SNIP ================================
My response to this: "Holy Toledo". The board must think that something
is potentially "unethical" about remote but they don't want to
promulgate any rules as to what is either "ethical" or "not ethical".
The DXCC will mean different things to different people. Maybe over time
various "consensus views" will be developed by various groups of like
minded DXers. In 20 years we might have the Southern Calif Remote DXCC
Club and the Southern Calif Non-Remote DXCC club. I guess that people
will be able to define the way they want to participate in the DXCC
program. Since this whole thing is a hobby I guess this makes sense.
They ARRL is probably wise to avoid getting in the middle of clan
warfare over this.
Hey, I'm having trouble working EP6T from Central Oklahoma. Do you guys
mind if I sit here in OKC in front of my computer while I operate as
TA/K5RKS from a superstation with stacked monobanders in Ankara?
