Of course you will work Heard Is.
I guarantee it !!! :-) :-)
And yes with a dipole or inverted "V"
and 100 watts YOU can do it !!
Your Cushcraft MA5B will give 1-more S unit, so by all means use it.
Use it if it's only 6 feet off the ground. 1 more "S" unit is one more S
unit and it's BIG.
My beam is 20 feet off the ground. It's on a 52 foot crank up.
But it does just fine at 20 feet, so I don't crank it up.
Yes it will work better up higher but it does just fine where it's at.
I worked 249 unique countries with it in 2012 at 20 feet..
So far in 2013 have worked 154 unique countries.
Come on by an have a look see.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. Forget 160-80-40-30 meters
2. Focus on 10-12-15 and 17 meters when open.. 20M will be more
competitive, but doable.
3. Download the W6EL propagation prediction program.
ONLY try at the OPTIMUM predicted TIMES and FREQUENCIES for your
LAT/LON.
Anything else is a waste of time.
4. Finding where in the pileup he's working is a help.
And then going up or down a little from that is another tip.
5. CW will give you an advantage over SSB.
6. Plan on spending hours at a time--- if necessary.
7. Sometimes when the band is opening or closing for us works miracles.
8. Solar cycle effect is going to be poor like now.
It just levels the playing field and is the same for everyone
worldwide.
SO, it is really a non issue.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see the solar flux like it was in
the late 50's.
You didn't even need an antenna then ------- Hi Hi
