John, It is a good thing you are patient and like a challenge. 
Seriously, though, your best bet may be to concentrate on bands where 
there are fewer big amps and antennas (30/17/12).  If I remember the 
last operation from Heard correctly, propagation was really quite good. 
Maybe we will get lucky again.
