Never ran more than 160 watts and the largest antenna I had up was a 13B2 at 30 feet. Currently using a Kenwood TS2000 at 100 watts on 2m and a Cushcraft dualband yagi that has 5 elements on 2m, and I am still making plenty of Es QSOs with that setup. I think my best on 70cm with it has been 315 miles or so into far east Texas (EM31).
That's encouraging. I've had a used A14810S up the last two summers
and was quite excited to work up to EM19 and 29 and down to EM31. I
figured with 100 W from the 746Pro, not much of an antenna at nearly
30', fed with LMR400 (and not even N connectors!), that 500 km was
pretty awesome.
Until last Friday night. I never ever thought I'd work over 2000 km
with my set up or work a couple VE3s. Now I have 10 states worked on
2! 38 more to go! :-)
