John:

I can tell you as an IT professional, whatever PC you get, get the most
memory and the biggest processor that you can. I always suggest getting 2
GB of memory and you will be pleased with it. When you have more memory it
prevents the PC from paging out to disk, which deters performance greatly.
Here at work we always order 2-3 GB of memory on our PC's and at least 4 GB
on our smaller servers. Some of our larger servers we run 10-16 GB of
memory on them and one we have 24 GB of memory on it. The new duo-core
processors are good chips to have, if you can. I always tell folks to get
the most memory, the fastest processor, and the largest disk drive that
their pocketbook can afford. Having a DVD/RW is also nice to have these
days. You might want to find a notebook that has built in Wi-Fi, also.
