Thanks to all of you for some great advice and PLENTY for me to think about.  Your comments even have me wondering about some things I have done in the (distant and also recent) past and how it is playing out over time.  

My one experience with burying coax was down about 24 inches in schedule 40, 5 inch plastic pipe.  Almost immediately, I had water in it and sopped it out at the low end with a towel - BUT THEN I never had another drop.  Go figure.  

I've never tried to run it above ground.

I really appreciate the input!  Back to the drawing boards.
