Interesting question... There should be a legend somewhere on the map
explaining the colors, ovals and circles along with the designators, but

and have yet to find an answer.

Best guess is the N is for "Roads Not On State Highway System (Not State
Maintained)". As in muni, county, private, widened cow path...?

Think of the road as an adventure opportunity. ;)
