Coy et all,

I've had my K3 now for about 6 months. I've used it in some
contests where there are really big signals, and in some contests where
there are really weak signals. It is an excellent receiver, especially
on CW. For many years I swore that the TS850 was the best contest radio
around ... the K3 is better. It is a bit small and light. I built the
kit version and it is easy. When you take off the top cover you will
ask "where is the radio?".
This is very subjective, but I think it is a slightly better radio
than the FT1000MP series. It is definitely better than the Orion.
TenTec has some serious software problems. As mentioned before the DSP
filter does not ring, even at 50hz, although I found anything below
300hz is not of much use in a contest ... perhaps on 160 chasing a weak
DX station.
I do not have the 2nd receiver but I have a good friend who is a top
notch contester who does and he loves it for the diversity receive
capability. No radio is perfect, but in today's market the K3 is
clearly the best price performer. I don't think you would regret it.
The only drawback is the wait from Elecraft.

73, Ken K5KA
