[OKDXA] Revoltin' development...

Gene,

Thanks much for the nice offer. I failed to mention that I had my knee
worked on a week ago and am still getting around rather poorly. It will be
a few weeks before I'm even in any shape to mess with the antenna.

Actually, the rotor could be removed from the top section of the tower
without disassembling it if I could rent one of those bucket rigs like
linemen use to ride up and work on power poles. I've not ever heard of
anyone using one on a ham tower, and yet it would let me leave the tower up
enough that the top section is exposed down to the rotor. I'll have to do
some measuring and thinking and fail-safing on that idea.

Anyway, I appreciate the offer! Thanks.

Dang, Ken, that IS a revoltin' development indeed.
Very sorry to hear of your predicament. There were some days during the
cold weather where I was wondering if I had rotator problems but it
eventually thawed out. Sounds like getting yourself up and going again is
going to be a major undertaking. I'm not much on tower climbing but if
you're needing any kind of help other than going aloft, please let me know,
I'd be happy to lend an extra pair of hands and a reasonably strong back and

a
willingness to help.

Kim,

Be thankful! My rotor froze up and all checks on it indicate a mechanical
problem in the rotor. My tower is a crank-up. To safely replace the rotor,
I must remove all antennas, lay the tower over, fix or replace the rotor,
and then go back with everything. That is about 5 days of work plus time to
get the parts.

Needless to say, I'll be missing a bunch of DX for quite a while.

By comparison, you should feel much better now!

Well, dang it! My rotator done froze up. Must've been some sleet
built up around it. I finally got it rocked loose, but it cost me a
good hour an a half of checking and fiddling to make sure everything
was OK. At least nothing is broken...
