Kim, an inverted L is much easier and I think it works just as good.

Kim, I shunt feed my tower that is 65 ft to first ant and 8 more ft to the second. I use a shunt out 18 inches from the tower and shorted at about 40 ft. I use a capacitor only in series with the shunt. I think it is 530 pfd. I found it takes quite a bit of experimenting to get the shunt short point and the capacitor setting. An Antenna analyzer helps a lot. You are looking for a resonant point and impedance as close to 50 ohms as possible. Do the best you can to get a minimum swr then try it out. You will also need as many radials as you can get, at least 16 but something like 64 is better. Also, all cables coming down the tower must go all the way to the ground preferably inside the tower.
Any questions, drop me a note.
Jim

Coy, what do you use for rx and tx antennas on 160 m? I've procured
500 pf and 1000 pf vacuum variables (for about $80 each and they
hi-pot fine) for making a shunt feed on my tower. I suspect that even
with the shunt going all the way to 48 ft (the top of the tower
structure; there's 8 ft of mast above that), I'll still have a
capacitive impedance, so I'll need to make some kind of L-network to
match it. I live in a pretty quiet rural area and I'm hoping I can
use the shunt feed for rx, too. I'll need to install some radials,
but they won't be symmetric around the tower.
