John,
I use a Kenwood TS-930S.  It has 2 VFO's but not 2 receivers, so I can never 
listen to 2 frequencies simultaneously.  However, I find it a relatively 
simple matter to depress the "T-F Set" and listen to my
transmit frequency as I move the dial around.  It allows me to locate the 
station that is working a DX station
and position myself on the same frequency. Or, to position myself above or 
below the last worked station, if I determine that the DX station is trending 
downward or upward.  Same effect of the 2 receivers, just a little more work 
involved.  Have never found it to be overly burdensome.
