I was surfing Th'Bay tonight and stumbled across a little gem called the
Alesis 3630 audio compressor / limiter... Scores of 'em all over the place,
and the going eBay price is in the $50 -$60 range. You can buy them new for
a Franklin. Check this out:

Not only will it ride levels on your audio, but it has selectable hard and
soft compression curves, a noise gate, plus a boatload of features with more
knobs and blinky-lights than you'd expect for the price. The knob-to-dollar
ratio on this one is extremely good, and anything cooler would surely need
to have a vacuum-fluorescent display. Me Thinks I need one for the ATV
station I'm still putting together but may never actually complete.
That's what Ham Radio is all about... Justifying new toys. Isn't it?
