Well I have spare antennas and coax and connectors
During Harvey a LOT of repeaters went down and some folks were not able to find Transtar.

But the main reason for ME is the fun of getting to know who is in my area and workable simplex.

I get the impression some people don't like the idea of just having fun on the radio or meeting their neighbors.

Just like I have heard some people say they will not help anyone get a license. They will only help those who have proven themselves worthy by getting a license first.

Get over it. If you don't like the simplex groups turn the knob.

If ALL the repeaters in Houston go down because of a storm, no one will have a antenna up at their homes either If it only pulled off the coax connector when your antenna went down, how many have spare connectors on hand and can install it. There's also a significant amount of effort and commitment required for a person to get in ARES. I'm curious about the simplex group to see what's possible and less in the emergency aspect.

1. Find and meet hams that live nearby just for fun
2. Figure who we can reach when the repeaters go down AGAIN
3. Local help

Do you have a problem with it or just wondering
