All: After searching around I managed to find some more information for the
West Gulf Director elections. The information on this page was extracted
from the candidates QRZ pages which originally did not turn up in any
searches. The forum is on Saturday 9-28 from 2 to 4 at Transtar.

See this for John Stratton

This is extracted from Stratton's QRZ page. I Am A Candidate For Election
As ARRL West Gulf Director. I am a candidate for re-election to the ARRL
Board of Directors as the West Gulf Division Director - and I would like
your support and your vote. Because of your support and trust, I have been
honored to serve as your Vice Director for the West Gulf Division from 2010
- 2019. I was elected by a decisive margin to a full term as Vice Director
in the Fall of 2010. In 2013 and 2016, due to your continuing trust and
support, I was re-nominated, without opposition, to continue to serve as
West Gulf Vice Director. I served as acting West Gulf Director at both the
January and July 2018 ARRL Board Meetings due to the inability of
then-Director David Woolweaver (K5RAV) to attend. Under ARRL's corporate
structure, ARRL Members elect Vice Directors to replace a Director who
retires or can no longer serve. When K5RAV retired in January 2019, pursuant
to ARRL's corporate charter, I became Director of the West Gulf Division to
serve out the balance of David's term. I now stand for election to a full
term as West Gulf Division Director - and I ask for your support and your
vote.

Current ARRL Service In January 2019, the ARRL Board of Directors elected
me to the ARRL Executive Committee, the Legal Structure Review Committee and
the EmComm Manager Requirements Committee. As West Gulf Director, I also
serve as a member of the ARRL's Legislative Advocacy Committee and the
Member Benefits Committee.

Club Affiliations I am currently a member of: the Austin Amateur Radio
Club, Inc., one of ARRL's 100-year old clubs. I serve as its corporate
attorney and was 2010 Ham Of The Year) the Central Texas DX & Contest Club
(President for three terms) the Lone Star DX Club the Radio Club of America
(selected by the RCA Board to serve as 2018-2019 Assistant General Counsel).

Employment Currently I am a civil trial lawyer in Austin, Texas with my own
firm, The Stratton Law Firm, P.L.L.C., engaging primarily in commercial and
personal injury litigation. I graduated from the University of Texas at
Austin with a degree in Aerospace Engineering, was fortunate to work for a
short time at General Dynamics on the F-111 (Aardvark), then went on to the
University of Texas Law School. I have been in private practice since
passing my bar exam.

Amateur Radio Background I am a Life Member of the ARRL, a Silver Level
Member of the Diamond Club and hold a General Class license. I have wanted
to be a Ham since I was a kid crouching next to Uncle Curly's Hallicrafters
late into the night outside Paris, Texas. My fascination with the magic of
voices appearing out of the night air from exotic lands led me to a great
Elmer in the Boy Scouts. But, before I finished studying for my license,
life - in the form of graduation, girls, engineering school, law school and
then starting my own law firm - intervened. In 2006, I decided I had for
too long missed the magic of those voices, and I fulfilled the young kid's
dream, got my license and immediately joined the ARRL.

The supposed website for Madison Jones is down but I was able to find this
blurb which

http://sdxa.blogspot.com/

This is captured from Jones' QRZ page: Madison Jones: August 20, 2019. I
am a candidate for the position of Director of the ARRL West Gulf Division.
That position is presently held by John Stratton N5AUS, who became the
Director upon the resignation of the prior Director, David Woolweaver; he
was the appointed Vice Director prior to the resignation of David
Woolweaver.

The ARRL Board of Directors consists of 15 Directors and 15 Vice Directors
for each of the ARRL districts. There has been considerable criticism of the
Board for the last 10 or so years by the individual members of the League.
The most frequent criticism has been that the Board and the ARRL leadership
- its President, its CEO, and its general counsel - have followed a course
of conduct which is not transparent, not responsive to the wishes of the
majority of ARRL members, and generally favoring the wishes and influence of
commercial interests. The result of all this is that several Directors and
Vice Directors were removed from office in contested elections, and the
general counsel and CEO were replaced.

I have many concerns about the future of ham radio, which is under attack
from the outside - our spectum is worth a LOT of money - and within. I am
running for Director with the goal of making the activities of the Board of
Directors more transparent; to hear the voices of the membership of ARRL
(whose interests should be that of the members), and return our wonderful
hobby to the view of its founders - to not only serve as an emergency
communication source but also to advance the science of amateur radio for
ALL licensees, not just a small group. My fear is that without doing these
things, ham radio will die an unpleasant death by becoming just like
Citizens Band. If that were to happen, FCC will remove our spectrum (which
it can certainly do) and sell it to the highest bidder! Without change, I
predict that will happen very soon!

I will be happy to meet with any and all members of the ARRL, but time is
short. Voting begins about October 1st and runs for a very few weeks
following that. Email me with your concerns, and I will respond.
w5mikejuliet at gmail.com Please tell your friends that I welcome their
support!
