My thoughts on Field Day this year (UPDATED)

COMPLETE BONUS POINT PROOFS ATTACHED

I have not received any feedback from club members

Building:

* Enough room for our radios and displays, but a little small for
scouts that visited

*         Good condition

*         Amenities

*         Full kitchen available

* Good set of trees for hanging antennas

*         Good enclosure for generator

* Excellent field for solar panels

* Would be great for an outdoors winter field day event

Location:

* central for interested people from sugarland, pearland, oak forest
area

* may not be central for most of our club members

* VERY easy drive for me

Organizational:

* Should have had a list of assigned duties. Only a few people
helped set up and the same ones did take down.

* Having 2 locations was an issue. Most operators on the "other
end" did not take the "/2" designation

* If we do this again, use my call for the event and then tie it to
the club for scoring

* Need to have signup of those who intend to operate so we can
better utilize talent.

* Since only 3 stayed past 8pm, I question if we should do overnight
in the future.

* Should have gotten commitment from other residents to stay
overnight . I did set up, tours, overnight, takedown ... 27 hours straight.

Bonus Points:

*         Held in public place

*         News media

* Served agency (CERT) sign-in sheet plus email confirming visit

* Elected official (City Council Member Castex-Tatum)

* Educational table (History of Morse Code and radio MB) sign-in
sheet plus

*         Social Media

Attendance:

*         Good response from scouts

* Overall Lower than I hoped

* Fewer club members attended than I expected. probably due to
distance plus time at Transtar location

*         Only 3 operators stayed past 8pm

Equipment & contacts:

* Band conditions were terrible until about 7pm Saturday, but got a
lot better after dark

* A few equipment problems. operator error plus some software
problems

* 2 OF THE 3 RADIOS WERE NEW TO THE OPERATORS, SO THERE WAS A
LEARNING CURVE

*         ANTENNAS WENT UP WELL

*         ADEQUATE COAX WAS AVAILABLE

Comments from neighborhood:

I have received some positive feedback from those who came by

One neighbor kept asking how we were doing it without antennas.. She finally
realized the fears and horror stories circulated about huge antennas were
false.  She was delighted!

A couple neighbors have made comments on "Nextdoor" that they are very happy
to know amateur radio is available in the neighborhood for the next time
power and phones go out

Two visitors have said they want to get a license

Two others are likely to renew an expired license

Handoff to ARRL...

I have submitted score for Glenshire location
