Nick,

Thank you for contributing to the list. It has been pretty dead for
many years — despite occasional attempts on my part to revive
discourse.

Your enthusiasm for the NTS will be a welcome resource in Central
Texas, once yo relocate and become situated. The primary liaison, a
frequent check-in to the 7290 Traffic Net, recently died. He was among
the only regular outlets in that region of the state.

AFAIK, you are correct WRT local nets in the Waco-Temple-Killeen area
— there are none. Certainly, any efforts to initiate/revive such a
resource will be much appreciated. As it is now, North Texas is the
primary hub for traffic into and out of the state and several of us
take it upon ourselves to deliver traffic to areas without good
representation.

While it is true there is no independent Section website, the current
SM has indicated he is interested in creating such a resource. Having
been elected less than a year ago, he has been preoccupied with other
priorities. I am sure he (and whomever he has identified to coordinate
said project) would welcome any help you could offer.

At present, I hold appointments as both the Net Manager of the DFW
Metroplex Traffic Net and Section Traffic Manager. In the absence of
an official Section website, I do maintain some Section level
information on the DFW traffic net site.

You will be a welcome addition to the roster of NTS operators in North
Texas. Working with the SM, I have just completed a reevaluation of
the NTX ORS appointees and trimmed the roster by about a third. Some
of these were no longer League members, while others had been inactive
for over five years. It will be nice to rebuild the roster and having
someone with your enthusiasm and dedication to recruit in Central
Texas will be great!

Most liaison activity around the state is handled by the DTTN, 7290
Traffic Net or Texas CW Net. With band conditions being as they have
for the past couple of years, long skip has limited the performance of
the latter. 40m has had its share of noise and reception issues, as
well. Having an EchoLink conduit will be a excellent extension of our
capabilities. Once you have a node up and running in Waco area, let me
know and we will initiate at least an occasional link between the
local nets.

I think that addresses most of your points. If you have any further
questions or comments, please feel free to post them here or direct
them to me, privately. An open discourse on the list will be a useful
resource for anyone interested in traffic handling.

Thanks again for the input and comments.

Herman
