Hi Cam and Everyone,
Cam, have you tried to download the manual from Icom? I've also been
looking into the new Icom's for radios to replace my older tech here.
Between the 736 and 847 I should have enough to get the 97oo to replace
them, but we'll see what happens. Another good radio for the Software
defined stuff is of course both Flex Radio and Elecraft. I know the
Elecraft will do transverters well, not too sure about how far up the bands
the Flex will go yet.
Transverters are not cheap! No matter if it's a premade or commercially or
a non made kit they sure are expensive! Depending on which frequencies and
your level of expertise you might want to look into W1GHZ.org pages, he has
transverters that aren't even kits, just the boards and you buy the parts.
Good, cheap, and out to 10Ghz so far. If i remember right, there is a 900
Mhz and above including both 1.2 and 2.4 Ghz.
