Next weekend is a major DX contest on SSB. In the days between now and then, many people will be on the air from all over the world to test and tweak their stations.
It's a good time to work some DX, if the bands cooperate.
The contest, CW World Wide, begins at 8 pm Friday night our time and goes for 48 hours. The exchange (what we send and receive) is a signal report and CQ zone number. The signal report is always 59. Our CQ zone number is 5. So I would say "Five nine oh five" or "five nine five" to other stations.
This is not the time to call other USA ops except for Hawaii and Alaska, which court as DX. Don't call anybody in the lower 48. Everywhere else is fair game.
If you want to avoid the contest, operate something other than SSB or choose a band where contesting isn't -- 12, 17, and 30 meters.
