Thanks, Patrick,
Good catch!
I may be wrong, but I believe that the mPING project application (the
meteorological Phenomena Identification Near the Ground project) goes
directly to the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory at the University of
Oklahoma, in Norman, Oklahoma. The reports, as I understand the project's
objectives, go more for research, rather than for alerting the public DURING
actual storms IN PROGRESS. I have that app on my iPhone, and I use that
from time to time, as well as making SKYWARN reports directly to the good
people at the NWS Forecast Office right here in Blacksburg.
I DO know that the forecasters right here in Blacksburg at the NWS Forecast
Office really DO want and appreciate our reports of serious weather, as
reported during a severe weather event, and relayed in via our SKYWARN net.
Our net reports are really what is preferred.

Carter N3AO

Group,
Came across the MPING weather reporting app for IOS devices. Has a simple
interface and could compliment calling into NWS Blacksburg with storm
reports.
73s,
Patrick
