Hi again New River Valley ARC Weather Spotters,

Thanks so much for all your snowfall depth reports you gave me yesterday. I
relayed them all into the BBG NWS, and each time I was able to speak with
Phil Hysell there, the SKYWARN Spotter group instructor we have all had the
privilege of learning from. He was most appreciative.
He told me to do the following, and I hope you will also:

Open your internet browser and enter in the following:

www.weather.gov/Blacksburg

The look on the menu on the left until you find something like the
following:

Hydrometerological Event Display

And you will see the big cluster showing all of our reports from yesterday.
You will have to click on the + sign to zoom in on our area. Each "balloon"
will have the maximum snowfall that you reported, right at the locations you
gave me. Pretty neat, I think!

Now, TODAY, if you will email me (carter128 at verizon.net) or call me on my
cellphone (540-250-8184) your total snowfall depths, I will call them into
the BBG NWS, and then they will have complete data!

So far, I have 8.75" for Wytheville, from Lou Westfall KF4JRV; and I have my
own (7" even) for my home here at 570 Brush Mountain Road, Blacksburg. I
will also try to be near my 2-meter ham radio, but I can't promise to be
there when you call...

Thanks everybody!!

73,

Carter N3AO

Subject: [nrv-hams] Snowfall Amount Reporting

Hi New River Valley Club Members,

This wet snow is predicted to continue falling until about 6:00 AM Monday
morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Blacksburg (BBG) would appreciate your
reports of snowfall depths.

Find a spot away from buildings, trees, vehicles, and so forth, where the
ground is fairly level, if possible.

Use a 12" ruler or yardstick to determine the depth.

Make a note of the TIME and date you are taking your reading.

In your report include the following:

1. The snowfall depth

2. The time you made your reading

3. Your home address (with the street number) or the nearest cross street or
intersection, including route numbers, if you are in a rural area.

4. If you notice the time that the snowfall stops please include that in
your report too.

5. Include any storm damage, if any, and any road condition problems, if
any.

6. If the wind picks up, please include the wind speed (as measured OR
estimated) and the direction it's coming from.

7. If you're able take the rate of the snowfall, please include that too.

You can telephone me at 540-250-8184.

You can email or text me at carter128 at verizon.net

You can send me a message on WXSpots, using BLACKSBURG NWS for our group
name.

I welcome ALL questions.

The BBG NWS really appreciates your reports.

73,

Carter Craigie N3AO
