Hello fellow hams,

The Wilderness Road Ride and Mountains of Misery bike rides will be held
this year on May 26 and 27 respectively.

The event coordinators for these events eagerly welcome our participation.
As it's been said before, they couldn't do these events without us. We add a
level of safety and response to emergencies they wouldn't have without us.
This year might be especially difficult because of the unusually warm
weather. For those who were involved in the event of 2 years ago, water
shortages occurred during MoM for that reason. That problem was resolved for
last year's event but the opportunity for bikers to suffer dehydration and
heat stroke remain. Last year a biker suffered severe dehydration upon
arriving back in Newport and needed IV fluids and a trip to the hospital to
recover.

I encourage you to participate again this year, and for those who weren't
able to for whatever reason, we encourage your participation. We hope to
have 25+ operators for MoM to sufficiently cover all needs with depth. A
significantly lesser number are needed for WRR.

I'll be sending more detailed information once I get the final okay on
repeater usage, but in the meantime let me know if we can count on you this
year. If you can participate in only one of the two events we'd prefer you
join us on Sunday's Mountains of Misery if possible. Also, let me know if
you have a preferred location based on past participation.

If you haven't participated in one of these events previously and are
apprehensive, not to worry, we'll put you with an experienced operator. We
were all "there" at one time.

Thank You and 73,

Rick Armstrong, KS4XO
