While Kay (my thanks for the reminder Kay) did a good job reminding us of
the 10 meter contest on the weekend of the 10th, there a few things to keep
in mind. As a Technician you have a huge chunk of 10 meters you can play
in. From 28.300 to 28.500 on you radio dial. If you just throw a dipole
cut for 10 meters, lets see if my math works here. A piece of wire 16 and
a half inches long, split it in two and put an insulator in between the
pieces. Throw the 2 ends in a tree and work the world with 100 watts.
Please remember that in a contest like this, you don't have a normal QSO.
All you will pass is your call sign, 5/9 (on voice and 599 on CW)followed
by Virginia. They will pass back their call, 5/9, and the state, country
and state, or territory and country. It's really fun to get into this
contest, it's one of the easier ones and with ten meters being open, you
could probably get you WAS, WAC, and maybe your DXCC all in a weekend. Not
to shabby for a weekends work er play.
