As it turns out there NO ANTENNA RANGE TESTING at Aurora next weekend. There was only
one antennas to be tested.
Frankly, set up for the range for one antenna is too much work. Sorry.
(One additional request for one antenna came in while I was writing this note...
unfortunately, its still too much effort for only two antennas.)
Instead of the RF antenna range we'll setup a demonstration of Amateur Optical
Communications at Aurora 2026 on May 30th, 9:00 am to noon. Optical has a lot of
potential for (really !) high frequency communications.
We will set up an Optical Beacon on 850 nm which will allow us to test Optical Receivers.
The beacon will generate -3db Power Steps from 0 dB down to -21 dB so we can get an
audible Signal to Noise Ratio measurement for various Lens/Aperture/Detector combinations.
We will also have a reflective panel placed about 300 ft away to test transceivers in full
duplex mode and simulate Cloud Scatter. Of course, we will also experiment with station to
station communications (CW and Voice). If you have an Optical Rig or not, please join us
just south of the ballpark fence for experimentation, demos, and conversation about the
world of Amateur Optical Communications at Aurora 2026 on May 30th.
See you at Aurora26
