[NLRS] WSPR on Tuesday

I'm also running a 9700 here, and I noticed if I pushed the power much
past 20 watts I would not see myself get decoded anymore. 10 watts
seemed to be my sweet spot and I can see in a few of my WSPR reports I
had about 4 hertz drift around that power level. Later this week for
science I'm going to setup my 705 on a dummy load and to listen to my
WSPR transmissions and see what I record my drift as at different
power levels. I do think I will be looking at one of those Leo Bodnar
GPSDO boxes for my 9700 in the future.

Also, this morning I was noticing while I was getting heard I wasn't
hearing anyone at all. I tried an experiment and moved my LNA from my
sat egg beater antenna over to the beam and as soon as I turned it on
I was able to copy N0JCF fairly well. It's amazing how well those
mast mount preamps work.

Erica, W7WXR

It's unfortunate that Icom didn't just include the ability to connect an external reference oscillator in the first place, but the Bodnar injection board looks like a clever and relatively cheap way to overcome that issue.
> With that modification, is the 9700 a good IF rig for a 10GHz transverter? I realize that a lot of folks use much cheaper all-mode 2m rigs for that, but since I already have the 9700, that would get me that much closer to finally getting on that band...

I'm seeing a lot of traces in the waterfall with significant drift (like 30-50 Hz) over the course of the 2 minute WSPR window on 70cm. Not nearly as pronounced on 2m. I have yet to copy anyone on 70cm - maybe that's why. Has anyone added that ref lock board from Leo Bodnar to their 9700?
