Hello all
The 25th Annual Minnesota QSO Party is happening on Saturday, February 4th, from 1400 UTC (8:00 AM CST) to 2400 UTC (6:00 PM CST). Yes, while this is a HF only operating event please note that last year our club finished in 1st place just ahead of the Twin Cities DX Association. How's that for a VHF club.
So the purpose of this email is to let you know that we need your help in "defending the cup" for 2023. The TCDXA will be gunning for us this year. The Minnesota QSO Party is a really fun, laid back, make it what you want, operating activity. The key to defending the cup for us is for you to get on HF and to call "CQ the Minnesota QSO Party, this is W0XYZ". The contest exchange is your first name and your Minnesota county while outstate stations will send their first name and their state/province or DX.
There is a ton of information about the Minnesota QSO party on the W0AA.org website. Once you are on the website go to the "MN QSO Party" link shown on the top right side of the page. You can find out all sorts of interesting information there, or, if you have a question you can ask me too.
On that website notice the "Activity Map" page. This page has a Minnesota county map that shows where all the MN stations are located who has said that they plan to be active. This page is for all Minnesota stations to use, fixed, portable or mobile. You can see that there are still a lot of Minnesota counties that remain without posted activity. If you do plan on playing on February 4th on phone, cw, or both, please send your planned activity to Pat, K0PC, who is the webmaster who maintains this page and whos webmaster email address is shown on the top of the Activity Map page. If you live in a more rare county, please give this your consideration as we are targeting to activate all 87 counties and the Club needs your help in defending the cup.
In closing
- I hope that you plan to spend some time playing on Feb 4th. If you do plan to do so, part time or full time, please first send your activity plans to the webmaster so that we can map it. Note that mobile stations use this Activity Map to help them activate those MN counties where there may not be any fixed station activity.
- When you get on the air, call "CQ Minnesota QSO Party" as stations across the World will be looking for you. With improved SF numbers the higher bands should be busy.
- After the Party, send in your log per the website information (easy to do) and indicate Northern Lights Radio Society as your club.
73, JonW0ZQ
