Hello NLRS land!
At the Aurora'22 NLRS business meeting, the club approved an update to its Constitution and Bylaws (C&B). The updated version of the C&B is now posted on the NLRS website (see the About Us section of the website at www.nlrs.club).
The main changes to the C&B are: (1) how the club collects club dues and (2) how the club defines a "club member in good standing". Regarding (1), at the Aurora'22 business meeting, it was determined that the club's current finances are in good order and that the club requires no additional funds to function for the foreseeable future. Therefore, yearly dues (which were $5) were dropped from the C&B. ***So there will be no yearly dues, starting January 1, 2023.*** However, in the updated C&B, the club maintained the right to reestablish dues should that ever become necessary. Additionally, we can always replenish funds by "passing the hat" at Aurora, etc.
Regarding (2) above, per the revised C&B, a NLRS club member is defined to be in good standing as follows: "A member shall be considered current and in good standing by being active in amateur radio contests, by attending club meetings and events, or be considered a contributor to club affairs by a club officer."
Using this C&B guidance, the club officers will periodically review the club membership roster to assure that those listed on it have, over the past 3 years, either: submitted one or more VHF contest scores to the contest sponsor; attended one or more Aurora conferences or other NLRS gatherings (e.g., monthly breakfasts); or deemed to meet the membership definition based upon the club officers' recollection of the member having contributed to other club affairs not included in the above.
Recently, the NLRS club officers completed a club membership roster review. This updated roster is now posted on the NLRS website (see the Membership section of the website). As an action item for you we ask that ALL MEMBERS please review this roster to ensure that you are listed as a club member and that your listed six digit grid square location is correct. If your call is not listed and you wish to join, or if your listed information is incorrect, please fill out the NLRS Membership Form on the club's website (see the Membership section). Note that the ARRL-related information that is collected on this form is required for us to remain an ARRL Affiliated Club and to participate in the ARRL contest club competition.
Finally, as many of you may already know, the club maintains two rosters: (1) a club membership roster and (2) an ARRL contest club eligibility list. The club roster is a list of all club members in good standing as outlined above. The club remains committed to being a regional club with members hailing from Minnesota, the Dakotas, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Canada. The ARRL contest club eligibility list, however, includes only those NLRS club members who are in "good standing" per the club's C&B and who live within a 175 miles radius of the NLRS's defined club center of EN24xx. You can learn more about the ARRL Contest Club Competition, the list the NLRS maintains to be part of it, as well as a map of the NLRS's club circle at the NLRS website (www.nlrs.club) under the section titled NLRS and Club Competition.
