Hi All -
The VHF world has changed in the past 15 years. My observations are only
based on one weekend but it was an eye opener. I haven't been on VHF in a
while and so it was quite apparent.
Activity is down dramatically, and too much of the activity (it appears)
only wants to be on FT8. Just sit on one freq, click on a call and let
your computer talk to another computer.
I used to help at a multi-op and I'd always aim for 50+ grid on 2M (with
about 400w and a couple yagis). While conditions weren't great, my 21
grids on 2M was disappointing. Where was everyone? I was able to work
from EN27 to EN74 to EN61 to EM19, a good 350-400 mile circle on 2M. There
were so many open grids in between. I worked one station in Iowa on 2 &
432.
Maybe I'm just an Old Timer now thinking back to the "Good Old Days" of VHF
contests. Maybe we just need to fire up activity and get more folks on the
bands.
Thanks to those who ventured to the SSB/CW freqs and said hello! Also,
thanks to the Rovers who went out to give out the Q's and mults!
